Sharjah's cultural project, Knowledge without Borders (KWB) held a session during the 47th edition of the Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF 2016). The Fair is taking place until February 10 at the Egypt Expo and Convention Authority in Nasr City. Under CIBF 2016 slogan of "Culture at Stake", KWB introduced the audience about its projects and initiatives to promote a culture of reading in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The session was moderated by media figure Mahmoud Sharaf and was attended by large audience of intellectuals, journalists and visitors. The General Manager of KWB, Rashid Al Kous spoke to the audience about Knowledge without Borders and its objectives. He also talked about the most prominent initiatives and activities undertaken by the project since its foundation such as the Home Library, and its cultural impact on society in Sharjah.
Rashid Al Kous said, "The main objective of Knowledge without Borders is to encourage all members of the community to read. Home libraries consisting of 50 books that are tailored to the families' ages, needs and interests have been distributed to thousands of Emirati families in Sharjah. By the end of the project, approximately 42,000 families throughout Sharjah would benefit from the project."
Al Kous added, "The year 2016 was declared as the year of reading according to the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, which has increased our focus and efforts as the KWB team. We are therefore taking part in events and organizing activities in line with His Highness's wise directive."
Al Kous said that participating in events of this kind is important for the project as part of its effort to promote their regional and international presence. "Book fairs are particularly important as they represent a platform for interacting with the largest number of publishers from around the world, and for finding out about the latest book releases in various fields," he added.
