Tadweer, the Centre of Waste Management, Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with other government authorities in the emirate started its preparations for the holy month of Ramadan with special awareness initiatives. These include campaigns to encourage recycling and reduce waste.
"Ramadan is a holy month of goodness, mercy, forgiveness, tolerance and generosity. During this holy month, Tadweer will be working on delivering a set of key awareness messages, including the importance of waste separation, extravagance in food and purchase as needed," said Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, general manager of Tadweer.
"We welcome the holy month with an action plan to create a sustainable environment, provide better services and to provide the ideal healthy environment for mosques, public parks, shopping centres and the Corniche of Abu Dhabi, in addition to a separate action plan for the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque."
Dedicated manpower and workers from Tadweer will be sent around mosques and areas where Ramadan tents are available from 4.30pm onwards, to clean up all the streets of the targeted locations and collect waste immediately after Iftar.
"In case of large food quantities, Food Preservation Project must be informed about it and shouldn't be discarded and increase waste. Tadweer will be targeting the whole society to educate them on the concept of how to reduce, re-use and recycle, to instill such concepts and raise awareness about the economic and environmental importance of reducing waste and converting it to resources," he added.
Tadweer coordinates with the UAE Red Crescent on an annual basis, to provide the geographical distribution of locations and number of tents, and the expected number of people fasting in each tent to determine the required type of services.
In addition, it will coordinate with a number of hotels, private institutions and charities to provide cleaning and sweeping services for their Ramadan tents. Also, for any services required by separate charitable projects, owners can directly apply by calling the call Centre on 800 555.
