When contacted, an official source at the Central Pharmacy Supply Department at the Ministry of Health said an inspection team at the ministry had discovered the private pharmacy was selling pharmaceutical products that had passed their expiry date.
The pharmacist in-charge was immediately stopped by inspection authorities and his licence was revoked and the owner notified to make sure no expired drugs were sold to the public, said the official.
"The procedures, which fall in line with the stipulations of the pharmacy law, will ensure that expired products are not sold to the people," stressed the official.
The source also said that the results of the inspection operations were tabled during the meeting of the Pharmacy Licensing Committee at the Ministry of Health premises.
The inspection raid also revealed that another private pharmacy was operating without a pharmacist in-charge.
"This violates the pharmacy law, which states a pharmacist and an assistant pharmacist should be available at all times,” said the official.
Meanwhile, three drug factories have obtained permission to reopen following the ministry's decision to halt their activities.
"These factories have shown compliance with the conditions and criteria to operate in the country and the ministry has given them the licence to reoperate," said the source.
The ministry has also provided approval to four pharmaceutical manufacturing companies to operate.
The General Sale Medicine Registration Committee has approved 67 food supplements out of which 40 got conditional approval, said another senior source at the Drug Control Department at the Ministry of Health.
