Dubai Robo Doc, the new doctor in emergency rooms in Dubai's hospitals, promises to save lives by cutting waiting times for critical patients.
The doctor-on-wheels has been introduced in Dubai Health Authority's Hatta Hospital just a week ago but has already saved a few lives that could have been at risk if precious time was spent on transporting them from remote areas to Dubai for treatment.
"Dubai Robo Doc will not replace any doctor but will make up for in places that have less specialists," said Jaish P.C, the manager, sales for the Virtus Group that markets the robot. "Earlier paramedics/doctors could only hear the experts, but now they can also see them. This results in better treatment," he said.
The robot is operated from the doctor's control station in Rashid Hospital and gives guidance through a screen displayed in both hospitals. It can also read reports and X-rays by scanning them.

The machine, however, has to be mapped and will follow instructions fed into it.
"The robot also allows better interaction with patients," said Jaish. Currently, only one is available on trial and more could be introduced depending on its success.
