Man arrested for embezzling Dh328 million in Dubai

Dubai - Police set up an ambush to catch the culprit.

The Dubai Police have arrested an Asian who was wanted by 16 various parties in financial cases worth around Dh328 million. The suspect kept changing his hideouts for around two months to escape police. After extensive search, the cops succeeded in laying a trap and ambushed him. He was nabbed and later referred to Dubai Public Prosecution.
The wanted people department have been able to execute 98 per cent of the total arrest warrants received from other countries, and the arrest of wanted suspects in Dubai increased by 183 per cent and their handover to foreign authorities went up by 108 per cent, said Maj Gen Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief of Dubai Poice for criminal investigation.
He praised the efforts of the teams in the arrest and handing over of wanted persons in record time, pointing out that the arrest of those who are locally wanted reached 86.9 per cent of the total wanted people, which increased by 58 per cent as compared to last year.
He said the Dubai Police have a strong and close rapport with their counterparts in other countries, and have worked with the Interpol Department at the Ministry of Interior to hand over the wanted people immediately after they landed in the country.
Al Mansouri revealed that the wanted people department has achieved remarkable success in negotiating with those who fail to pay their debts and had left the country. They managed to settle the debts with a large number of people, which helped to reclaim the money.
Four Asians were arrested in various cases, including murder, and handed over to their countries following judicial orders and arrest warrants issued against them, said Colonel Saeed Abdullah Al-Qamzi, deputy director of the wanted department of the Dubai Police General Investigation. He added that 11 wanted persons were nabbed during the first quarter of this year as compared to seven in the same period last year. In all, 25 wanted persons were handed over to 12 parties from various countries last year, he pointed out.
Colonel Al Qamzi said the police arrested a woman who escaped the police after she was charged for  being involved in a human trafficking racket 10 years back. She was finally nabbed and handed over to the party concerned in mid-April this year.
He confirmed that since being launched, the video communication system in cooperation with the Dubai Courts had gone a long way in reducing by Dh5 million the cost to transport defendants from prison to the places of trials.
Colonel Al Qamzi explained that the convicted persons who are wanted for financial cases involving credit cards or loans are extradited and prosecuted in other countries according to agreements with the UAE. The international law allows competent authorities to blacklist the names of persons who owe amounts of $10,000 or more, he revealed.
