A man has been charged with physical assault and causing a serious bodily harm at a Dubai court after he allegedly bit off part of a compatriot's ear.
The Court of First Instance was told the 28-year-old Pakistani man, on a visit visa, caused the victim a permanent injury according to a forensic report.
He is accused of biting off the victim's left ear on June 4 in Naif area.
The victim, a 22-year-old worker, said he and the defendant had a verbal brawl which turned into a physical fight. "He had an agreement to install an advert board for a customer. The latter paid a down payment of Dh500 and was to pay the rest of the amount once the job was completed."
The victim recounted how he installed the board in front of the customer's shop and then went back home. "The defendant would not believe me later when I told him that the customer did not pay me any cash. He thought I was lying and insulted me instead. It made me angry and I found myself hitting him with a shoe on the head and then biting his left arm."
According to his testimony to the public prosecution investigators, the accused then bit his left ear off, making him lose an upper part of it.
A forensic report from the general directorate of criminal evidence and criminology showed that the victim lost part of his ear, which is seen as a permanent damage. He has to continue his treatment and follow up with his doctors for his recovery.
The court will pronounce a verdict on October 29.
