A woman based in India has been granted full custody of her two-year-old daughter by the Dubai Civil Court. The Dubai court upheld an Indian court's decision after a legal battle saw the woman's estranged husband bring their daughter to the UAE without her consent.

The 41-year-old husband filed a case at the Dubai Personal Status Court to get the custody of their daughter, but the court dismissed it. The mother's lawyer earlier argued that the court should dismiss the case on jurisdiction grounds pursuant to the Federal Personal Status Law of the UAE.

A request was then filed at the Dubai Civil Court on behalf of the mother, seeking full custody for her daughter. In her claim, the child's 37-year-old mother told the Indian court that she was oblivious to the fact that her ex-husband had issued a passport for their daughter and that he brought her to Dubai in the middle of divorce and child custody proceedings.
