A young Emirati man was killed and his compatriot sustained injuries due to a leak of poisonous carbon monoxide while being seated in a parked car for almost four hours with the engine running.
Experts at the criminal evidence of Dubai Police confirmed that the incident happened as a result of non-combustion of fuel in a normal manner, because of a malfunction of the car, and because it was running for a long time while being pulled up.
Colonel Khalid Al Suwaidi, director of the technical affairs at the General Department of Criminal Evidence of Dubai Police, has warned of the risks of such conduct, especially during summer.
He said people park their cars for long hours to avoid traffic jams and wait in them with the engine running. And if the cars are not maintained properly, there are chances of toxic gases like the carbon monoxide being released.
