An Asian resident suspected of growing marijuana in his house has been detained.

Abu Dhabi Police on Sunday said the 28-year-old man was caught as he attempted to sell almost half kilo of the drug after growing it in his home.

Police said they seized marijuana plants from the man's home located in Abu Dhabi.

More than 600g of the drug and seeds were also found in his home.

Brig General Dr. Rashid Bou Rusheid, director of the criminal investigation department at Abu Dhabi Police said: "The Asian man had soil, lighting and controlled the temperature in his home in order to grow and sustain the marijuana plants."

He added that the man confessed to having plans to harvest the plants.
