Al Dhaid Municipality seized 1,000 kg of pan, a narcotic substance banned in the UAE, from a house owned by an Asian in Al Dhaid area.
The municipality received a tip off of the illegal activities and immediately formed teams who raided the house belonging to the same Asian who sells the substance in his shop located on Al Dhaid-Fujairah road.
The pan and several kinds of anti-narcotic were being made in the house where the municipality team in coordination with police managed confiscated d 2,901 bags of bags of pan, weighing 55kg and ready for sale. Speaking to Khaleej Times, Salem Saeed Al Tunaiji, head of operations at the Department of the Municipality, explained that "pan is abused by Asians and that it is made by blending a mixture of natural and chemical materials. Its effect is similar to the effect of qat and both pose a threat to the safety of society and the user.
