A 25-year-old Emirati man invited a student, 19, for a ride at night but ended up kidnapping him and tried to gang-rape him with his friends in the desert, the Court of First Instance was told on Monday.

The man lured his countryman after a short friendly talk to ride in his car. However, he drove to the desert in Al Warqa, where together with his friends (at large), they slapped and punched him all of a sudden.

They allegedly tried to gang-rape him but the student fiercely kept them away from himself. They even clicked inappropriate photos of him.

They did not stop at that point but also stole the student's car, his wallet with his personal cards, and mobile phone.

The defendant was charged with kidnapping, attempted sexual assault, physical assault, taking inappropriate photos of the victim and theft.

"I was about to go inside an amusement centre around midnight in Abu Hail when I met the defendant and his four friends," the student said.

"I went with them for a ride but he then drove to the desert in Al Warqa. They stepped off and for no reason started hitting me with their hands. They asked me to let them have sex with me and then tried to do it by force. But I managed to stop them."

They tried to choke him and he felt he was going to pass out. "They walked me to the road where I saw a car that had not been there earlier. Its driver, an Emirati, told me he would take me home. I barely knew him. I rode in his car. He tried to talk me into not filing a complaint against those men."

The exhausted student slept right away at home and remembered about his car when he woke up. He had left his keys phone and wallet in the defendant's car.

"I was home around 9 am on April 29, 2016, when I heard a knocking on the door. It was my son with another man. He looked terrible. There were injuries on his face and body. I asked the housemaid to help him go inside and attend to his needs," the student's father, a 48-year-old lieutenant said.

"That man who was with my son claimed people spotted my son walking in Ajman and he was not looking fine. He said those people dropped my son to Al Mizhar.

"That man would not give me the contact details of those people and told me my son's car was parked in Ajman."

After hearing from his son how the defendant and his friends attacked him trying to gang-rape him, he went to Al Rashidiya police station and complained against them.

The attack left the student with scratches, contusions and a broken nose bone.

The trial will continue on March 30.
