An Emirati man was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday by the Court of First Instance for stabbing his 16-year-old son in the chest after consuming several cans of beer.
The 40-year-old unemployed man, identified as M.K., stabbed his teenage son and could have killed him had not the victim been given the urgent medical treatment, as per prosecution documents. M.K. has been accused of attempted murder.
The records do not cite, however, any reason behind the stabbing. But M.K. has also been accused of drinking alcohol (10 cans of beer) without a licence.
When referring the defendant to court, the prosecutors recommended that a tough penalty be inflicted on M.K. as per law. A police officer said that he was on duty when a stabbing incident was reported in Al Rashidiyah on April 4, 2015.
The officer said that he questioned M.K. about the incident and the latter admitted in the investigation that he stabbed his son once in the chest.
According to the forensic report, the stab wound the son suffered was deep and could have been fatal without the urgent surgery that was operated on him.
The verdict may be appealed.
