At least one seat must be allocated for women after the end of term of the current boards
Court records showed that the public prosecution had charged Farid with stealing two water engines, diving tubes and some iron articles from the farm of his sponsor, Abdullah Abdulhadi, in Al Ain on April 12, 2004.
The prosecution also accused another unidentified person of possessing the robbed items.
It demanded penalties for both as per the rulings of Islamic Shariah and Articles 388/2 and 407/2 of the Federal Penal Code. In August, 2004, the Al Ain Shariah Criminal Court ordered that Farid be sentenced to five years in prison and gave the other person a two-month jail term.
Farid contested the verdict before the Al Ain Shariah Criminal Court of Appeal, which in October, 2004, reduced the prison term to three years.
The defendant then approached the Federal Supreme Court, contending that the previous ruling should be declared null and void on the ground that he was allegedly forced by the police to admit to the robbery.
Relying on the testimony of the only witness, named Katan Abdulsattar, who helped Farid procure the items after he lied to him that he was taking those things for repair, the apex court dismissed the petition and upheld the earlier judgment.
