A man, who threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend unless she continued to do business with him, has been sentenced to three months in jail.
The 23-year-old Indian man on a visit visa was found guilty of making criminal threats against the Italian woman with whom he used to have a relationship and business deals.
He earlier denied the charge at the Court of First Instance. However, the court found him guilty and ordered his deportation.
As per prosecution records, the threats were made between February and April.
The complainant, a tourist, aged 27, said that the accused made the threats verbally and through WhatsApp. "He threatened to kill me and kill my parents unless everything returned to normal between us," she told the prosecutor.
The police summoned the accused to Jebel Ali police station for questioning. "He denied the woman's accusations. He claimed he and the woman had been living together. He also claimed she took his mobile phone while he slept and sent the threatening messages by herself after they had a fight. He said he had deleted the messages," a police sergeant said.
The complainant's Ethiopian friend, a 34-year-old sales executive, said that she visited her at her place in Tecom. "The defendant was then in the living room. She told me they had a fight. She showed me WhatsApp messages sent by the accused. He threatened to make her parents disappear. I felt scared and I told her to report him to the police," her friend said.
The witness added that the complainant would not inform the police because the accused had told her he had solid police contacts.
However, another friend of the complainant told the police and the cops went to her flat and were there when she took her belongings out.
