A man and his mother were cleared by the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court of insulting and assaulting his wife following a family dispute. They were accused of swearing and beating that the woman suffered several injuries.
According to the court documents, the case unfolded when the woman lodged a complaint with the RAK Police claiming that her husband had locked her up for three days without food following a heated argument.
The wife claimed he slapped her twice, pushed her hard and locked her down. She said that she had requested her husband to let her return to her family if he did not wish her to stay in his house with his second wife. She said her husband told her to stay inside and never get out of the house.
A police officer showed up after she alerted the law enforcement bodies that she was locked, deprived of food and seeing her children. But her husband and his mother insulted and assaulted her after the cop left.
Later, the wife's brother accompanied her to the police station where she lodged a complaint, proving her husband and mother's assault with the medical report. The medical report submitted to the court show that she would not be able to take care of her personal stuff for at least 20 days.
However, the husband denied the charges and attributed the entire dispute to his second marriage. The mother also denied the charges and called them fabricated as a revenge for the marriage of her son to a second wife.
The court, based on Article 211 of the punitive law, ordered the acquittal of both the husband and his mother for lack of evidence, adding that the medical report did not include decisive evidence that the defendants did the reported assault.
