A man stood trial at the Fujairah Civil Court for allegedly duping a woman of Dh1,100,000.
As per court records, the case unfolded when the victim lodged a complaint with the Fujairah Police against the suspect claiming that he tricked her into buying a plot of land he owned for Dh1,100,000.
"He also promised that his own company would rent the same plot of land for three years for Dh200,0000," she said.
The suspect wrote five cheques - each worth Dh40,000 - for the victim against the rented land, the woman added.
"Later, I discovered that he (the defendant) did not have any project to carry out on the plot of land as he had assured her."
He even asked her to stop cashing any cheque against the plot of land whose ownership he claimed to retain.
The case was moved to the court where the suspect denied all the charges, before submitting the documents he claimed to be legal and signed by the victim.
The court ordered adjournment of the case to continue hearing sessions.
