Chrissy Smith, who moved from the UK to the UAE three years ago, shared her inspirational story on how she overcame two cancers at the same time, while highlighting on how an examination helped save her life.
"I had two unrelated cancers - stage four throat and neck cancer, and stage one breast cancer.
"I did not have any signs or symptoms for the breast cancer, but when I had the PET scan, doctors discovered that I also had breast cancer," added the 54-year-old.
"I had a monogram in the UK before coming to the UAE and it showed that I was fine. So if I didn't have the scan here, I wouldn't have known that I had cancer." Smith, who completed her treatment in July, noted that her family and friends helped her overcome her struggles and fears.
"If one can be lucky with having cancer, then I was lucky. People talk about battling the disease, but I didn't battle the disease, I just accepted it and plodded through whatever they chucked at me.
"Chemo can fry your brain, and you can't be on an island with a disease like this, you need your family and friends."
"I have now bounced right back to life and feeling positive. It is amazing what your body can overcome."
