At least 2,000 male and female students in UAE benefited from the vocational training programme ‘Preparation’, which was organsed by the Ministry of Education (MoE) during the first term school break.
The two-week preparation programme, which aimed at equipping the students with job market skills, was organised in cooperation with 28 governmental, local and private institutions. It targeted students in grades: nine, 10, 11 and 12.
It was intended to familiarise the students with the requirements of different work environments, provide them with personal and professional skills, prepare and qualify them for early engagement in the labour market and help bridge the gap between learning and the labour market.
Amal Al Jasmi, director of the Academic and Professional Counseling Department at the MoE said the ministry is keen on optimally utilising school holidays to employ the available capabilities, in cooperation with strategic partners, to provide students with new professional skills that contribute to refining their experiences, developing their capabilities, and enhancing their leadership position in the future labour market.
She noted that the labour market was constantly changing, and that its requirements are varied. "It's important to always prepare well the young generation to enable them enter the job field with confidence, exceptional capabilities and knowledge, so that they can keep pace with the required skills, which have become necessary and indispensable," said Al Jasmi adding that this is what constituted a major axis that the preparation programme sought to achieve.
She pointed out that ‘Preparation’ seeks to achieve these goals, and to consolidate the ministry’s vision of empowering the students with knowledge, professional and specialised skills, pointing out that 78 trainers supervised the provision of specialized workshops for students.
Each student had 50 effective training hours, based on pedagogical educational strategies, which included theoretical lessons, in addition to practical and applied materials, and effective evaluation tools, followed by feedback.
