A young Emirati boy has tragically died while marking UAE Flag Day at his home on Thursday (November 3) evening.
According to local reports, 12-year-old Saeed Khalfan Humid Al Nuaimi had climbed up to the roof of his two-floor villa in Al Ain, against his mother's instructions, and fell from the roof.
Recounting the incident, the Umm Ghafa-based family said that young Saeed insisted on flying the flag from the roof top and took a wooden chair to help him put up the flag, without asking his mother. He fell from the roof after losing his balance on the way down.
Saeed - the fifth child among nine - died on the spot due to a head injury, the family added.
His other siblings and mother were sitting together when the unfortunate incident took place.
"He was so eager to express his love for UAE that he wanted to place the flag where people could clearly see the flag," despite the mother asking him to place on the door, the family added.
His family says Saeed's death is an honour as he died while he was raising the flag of UAE.
"This is a medal and honour" and added that they were ready to die for their country.
Al Ain Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The boy's funeral prayers were held at a mosque in Al Ghafa area and he was buried after Friday prayers in Al Ghafa graveyard.
