Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) has started building new parks and playgrounds at Al Shamkha city and Al Adlah city, costing over Dh127 million.
The projects include renovation of parks and maintaining landscaped areas in Abu Dhabi Mainland, besides constructing water reservoirs, irrigation systems and modern pumping stations.
The projects will provide recreational facilities and parks under the development plan 2030 for Abu Dhabi and suburbs.
As per the project, Al Shamkha will have four parks, including a new one at Al Adlah, besides renovation of parks and landscaping works in the Mainland of Abu Dhabi city.
The projects also comprise building multi-purpose sports courts for all age groups, barbeque areas and sitting areas surrounded by eye-catching aquatic sceneries and decorative lighting.
One park is nearing completion - 99 per cent work is done - for which Dh34 million has been already spent.
A completion rate of 90 per cent has been achieved in another park and infrastructure rehabilitation project in the Mainland in the first phase. This multifaceted project aims at refurbishing parks and carrying out landscaping areas in the Mainland of Abu Dhabi city, at a total cost of Dh10 million.
Al Khatam Park No. 2 was also officially opened early February with a cost of Dh9.87million. The park, which covers an area of 38,000 square meters, includes a multi-purpose court for football and basketball and shaded play areas. For the irrigation networks, the municipality has fully completed irrigation systems, reservoirs and pumping stations in the area stretching from Al Faya to Al Khatam along Abu Dhabi - Al Ain Road.
The project includes constructing seven pumping and seven reservoirs with a total capacity of more than 5.5 million gallons.
The projects also includes extending the main pumping lines, connecting stations and existing irrigation networks, in addition to extending reservoir feeder lines at length of 90 kilometres, and building control rooms along the feeder and pumping lines.
The municipality has demolished and removed old irrigation reservoirs and exiting pumps. The total cost of these works has exceeded Dh73 million.
The municipality is moving ahead with more infrastructure projects in resonance with the urban and economic upswing and the rising population seen by Abu Dhabi this year.
