The activities of Moroccan Heritage Week kicked off on Tuesday at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage (SIH) Cultural Heritage Events Centre in Bait Al Gharbi
The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Abdul Aziz Almusallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and His Excellency Mohammed Bernoussi, the Moroccan Consul-General in Dubai who toured the outer yard of Bait Al Gharbi and joined the large crowd that gathered to watch the folklore and musical shows performed by the heritage band.
Moroccan Heritage Week is part of World Heritage Weeks, which hosts an Arabic or foreign country for a monthly week-long event. The activities of the Moroccan-themed week will run until February 29th, and will include a variety of activities, seminars, heritage fashion shows and traditional food.
Abdul Aziz Almusallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, said: "Moroccan Heritage Week includes various activities related to Morocco's rich heritage such as handicrafts, music, folklore songs, storytelling, traditional cuisine, heritage fashion and jewelry, a heritage photo gallery and art exhibitions. In addition, two cultural seminars have been organised and will address topics related to Moroccan heritage."
He added: "Morocco is the second guest of World Heritage Weeks, with Bahrain being the first and Egypt scheduled as the third. The first day of the five-day event was dedicated to the opening ceremony, while the remaining four days will consist of various activities bound to attract wide public engagement from Moroccan visitors and residents in the UAE."
