A large number of motorists are flocking into the Sharjah Traffic department to benefit from the emirate's decision of cancelling black points on driver's licence and reduction of traffic fines by 50 per cent, effective from October 19.
Lt-Col Khalid Al Kai, deputy director of the traffic and patrols department of the Sharjah Police, said the traffic fine payments can be made through the Ministry of Interior (MoI) app. However, those who have traffic black points should approach the police department in person.
He said the department received a large number of motorists who thought the offer was only valid for one day. "The officers explained that they have 50 days to pay their fines. The motorists can approach their nearest police station to cancel black points."
Around 5.3 million black points were automatically cancelled according to Lt.Col Al Kai. "Some points are cancelled automatically, while some points that are due to serious violations require the motorists to appear at the police stations.
"The department has deployed officers to work in morning and evening shifts to serve the crowd."
Brig Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, commander-in-chief of the Sharjah Police, visited the traffic and licences services centre to ensure premium services. "We are keen on delighting the motorists by providing services in an ideal manner to embody the strategy of the MoI to enhance the satisfaction of customers."
Brig Al Shamsi urged the motorists to take the advantage of the initiative and settle the fines as well as learn from the mistakes.
