At least 515 minor accidents were recorded in Dubai on Sunday as rains lashed the emirate on Sunday. No traffic deaths were reported on the day, the police have said.
A police official said most of the accidents happened between 6am and 2pm, as motorists struggled to adjust their driving to suit the weather conditions.
Major Mohammed Al Khazraji, acting director of operation room of Dubai Police, said the command room received 3,503 calls from 6am until 12 noon. He said some motorists sustained minor injuries.
In Sharjah, about 50 minor accidents were reported - mainly due to failure to leave enough space between vehicles. No major accidents were reported, Col. Ahmed bin Darwish, deputy director of patrol and traffic department, said.
He said the police deployed additional patrols in the emirate to prevent accidents. The police also installed temporary signboards and revised traffic signals to control traffic flow.
