Conservation projects that help protect valuable resources, such as wildlife, trees, water and minerals are vital in this day and age. Although modern time demands greater technology, faster cars, taller buildings and endless amounts of fast-food joints, it is the environment that is paying a heavy price.
The UAE government is constantly developing projects, which aim to protect and preserve the environment.
Eco-friendly schools, such as the Little Leaders preschool, which opened this October in Ajman; Masdar City, which relies on solar energy and renewable energy sources; and Sir Bani Yas, which not only provides splendid scenery for visitors, but also takes care of indigenous and endangered wildlife, the focus is on preserving the environment.
Aside from the nation's agenda and vision in creating eco-friendly projects, it is the residents who must also help conserve what is around them.
"Educating children and the community about not throwing waste in areas such as the beach, the parks or the streets is crucial when it comes to preserving the environment, the health and the appearance of the city," said Fatima Ahmad Al Harmoudi - Public Awareness Officer at Tadweer. "It is also important because it helps protect the marine environment and wildlife. Accumulated wastes in public places is harmful as it leads to a buildup of insects and rodents."
The official noted that the protection of the environment is critical, simply because this is the space that humans and animals need to survive on.
