The Hamriyah fruit, vegetable, fish and meat market will soon be opened to the public, after construction work by Sharjah Public Works concluded recently.
The market is characterised by a unique, traditional design inspired by local heritage.
Engineer Ali bin Shaheen Al Suwaidi said that the market was established under the directives of His Highness Dr. Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to transform Hamriyah to into a comprehensive facility to meet off the residents' food shopping needs. "The project was handed today to Sharjah Municipality, to prepare for the opening," Al Suwaidi added.
Engineer Alia Al Rand, Director of the project at Sharjah Public Works Department (SPWD), said that the market is constructed in a 5,280 square metre area, and includes 20 stalls, a cafeteria and services room. There are 5 meat shops, 3 chicken stalls and 12 shops for vegetable and fruits, with a huge parking space for shoppers.
This market faces the fish market, located in a 770 square metre area, with 20 stalls for the sale and cleaning of fish.
Engineer Abdullah Al Numman, head of projects follow-up at SPWD, said that the fish market is also equipped with its own parking, areas for fish cleaning services, and a permanent inspection office for health inspectors to ensure the quality and validity of the fish. "The two markets were initiated based on international standards, as we used doors made of aluminum instead wood and marble tables instead of metal, to ensure best health practices," he said.
The market located near the premises of the fishermen's association and ice factory, faces the Al Hamriyah beach. The market will contribute to infrastructure development in the emirate and provide all kinds of food products to shoppers, under one roof.
