The Al Fahleen Bridge, which serves five main areas in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, has been opened on trial by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
Eng Ahmad Al Hammadi, director of roads department at the ministry, said the new bridge will become a lifeline for over 1,800 people staying at five main areas in the emirate, including Al Fahleen, Al Hail, Khat, Seeh, Bin Alwan and Al Arbaeen.
The 70-metre-long bridge also offers quick access to the main roads of the emirate, he added. "These include the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, the Emirates Road and the old Etihad Road among many others."
Consisting of two lanes in each direction as well as a median island, it can accommodate up to 800 vehicles - 200 per lane, per hour.
People of Fahleen have lauded the speedy construction of the bridge which will save time, money and effort, and "provide us quick access to all the areas, districts and neighbourhoods, adjacent to the Ring Road".
Mohammed Saeed, an Emirati national at Fahleen area, said flooded roads and valleys are no more a problem for them with the new bridge coming up. "It gives us easy and safe access to all the nearby areas in case of floods."
Ali Saleh, an Emirati national at Fahleen area, said the construction of the bridge is very timely as it has been constructed before the outset of the rainy season.
"Abbarat - small rain bridges - used to be blocked during showers, and hence all nearby roads got flooded," he pointed. "With the new bridge, this won't be the case anymore."
