GEMS Education has announced the opening of a new school, GEMS Al Barsha National School for Boys and Girls, for the 2016 school year.
Located in Al Barsha, the school will have segregated campuses for boys and girls and will offer the English National Curriculum, but with a strong emphasis on Arabic and Islamic studies.
According to GEMS, the new school aims to be among the leading national schools in the UAE and seeks to create a generation of students that will be the leaders of the UAE and Arab world of the future.
"GEMS Education has been built by passionate educators, and for over 55 years we have been trusted by families in the UAE. With our track record of providing excellence in education we now launch this school for the UAE community," said Dino Varkey, group executive director and board member of GEMS Education.
"The UAE is placing an increased focus on quality education as a key pillar to build a knowledge-based economy, and by opening these new schools we are reaffirming our commitment to education in the country and helping to take forward the vision of the nation's leadership."
The curriculum will be delivered by experienced teachers in both English and Arabic to ensure that the students are fluent in both languages. The academic leadership will be hired from among the best British and Arab educators.
The boys school will be designed around the concept of how "boys learn best", while in the girls school, students will be able to develop their individuality while at the same time striking a balance between professional, personal and family needs.
GEMS British Curriculum schools achieved exam results that are up to 20 percentage points higher than the average student in England. Over the past six years, students from GEMS British Curriculum schools have won over 138 University of Cambridge International Examinations' Outstanding Cambridge Learner awards. Nine of these have been Top of the World Awards and 84 have been Top of their Country awards.
