The new measures, including for passengers transiting through these terminals, restrict the amount of liquids, aerosols and gels that can be carried in hand baggage.
The new measures are in line with the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the directives of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Passengers are advised to carry all liquids, aerosols and gels not required during their flight in their check-in luggage. Those needed during the flight should be packed in accordance with the new restrictions before passengers arrive at the airport.
They must be in maximum 100ml containers each. LAGs carried in containers larger than 100ml will not be accepted even if the container is partially filled.
The containers must be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag with a maximum capacity not exceeding 1 litre.
These containers must fit comfortably within the transparent re-sealable plastic bag, which must be completely closed.
Each passenger is allowed to carry only one transparent re-sealable plastic bag, which must be presented separately for screening. Exemptions will be made for medications, baby food and special dietary items.
Exemptions will also be made for retail liquid items bought at the airport or onboard the aircraft and packed in sealed transparent security Tamper-Evident Bags (STEBs) by airport/airline staff. The receipt shall be clearly displayed in the STEB and the date of purchase shall coincide with the date of travel.
Passengers are urged to check in at least 60 minutes prior to the flight departure time, subject to the airlines’ requirements.
The new security measures have already been implemented at Terminal 2 since June 30. The Airport Operations Department has described the implementation as “generally smooth”.
