A new unit was recently installed in Kalba by the wastewater management specialists of Septech Emirates, a local company.

The new facility will meet the demands of the expanding community and lead to an improvement in the septic tank systems formerly used by the municipality.

David Heffernan, Managing Director of Septech Emirates, said that the new centralised sewage plants will have a capacity to treat effluents produced by towns in excess of 5,000 people, when additional units are installed.

In Kalba, the capacity can now cater to 10,000 people and with only a few people required to manage the entire system, it offers the benefits of low running and maintenance costs. “The installations at Khorfakkan and Kalba enabled treated effluents to be used for irrigation purposes,” he noted.

Heffernan said that the usage of treated effluent for developing and maintaining green areas in the region is extremely important.
