To ensure safety and prevent fire accidents in industrial areas, the Ajman Civil Defence - in coordination with the economic department - will not issue new industrial licences without a certificate of compliance on safety and security conditions from the applicant.
Brigadier Adel Saif Al Matroushi, head of the safety and civil protection department at the Ajman Civil Defence, said that the policy will also be extended to residential and commercial buildings, when they renew their annual licences. The civil defence inspection section will also monitor and follow up on their activities periodically.
After segregating the industrial areas to old and new segments, the civil defence carried out inspections targeting 1980 industrial, commercial and professional establishments in 2017 - an increase in inspections by 50 per cent from last year.
Brig Al Matroushi added that the Ajman Civil Defence recently formed three specialised teams to conduct surprise inspections of all establishments on a daily basis. To aid this, the emirate is divided into five main sectors. "The inspection campaigns targeting industrial establishments in Ajman will continue to ensure readiness and compliance with the fire prevention and safety equipment used in industrial plants and facilities," Al Matroushi said.
