Following Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Sharjah has nodded to mobile food vendors. The Sharjah Economic development department (SEDD) on Tuesday issued licences to food vending truck business in the emirate after being approved by the Executive Council.

The decision included a set of requirements such as being owned fully by locals and the importance of having an existing licence for food supply activity.
The plan was launched under the wise directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, who calls for the importance of helping youngsters in businesses as well as supporting their ideas.

Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD chairman, said that the commercial activities in the emirate are witnessing big growth, adding that, 'Food Truck Business' includes a number of health and administrative conditions that contribute in providing best food quality, in addition to number of features and incentives that support the owners of projects and develop trade and economic movement.
Al Suwaidi stressed that the decision comes within the framework of the department's keenness to enhance the contribution of service activities and helping to create more services in Sharjah.

Fahad Ahmed Al Khamiri, director of registration and licensing department at SEDD, said that the activity will be subjected to number of conditions and regulations that will contribute in organising of Food Truck Business licences such as their sites and working hours.
Al Khamiri added that the conditions include food catering licence and an approval from real estate owner or lease for parking site. Only one vehicle will be allowed to run the business in all the authorised sites.
