Now, learn and read in parks

Pursuant to the designation of 2016 as a Year of Reading by the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and under the context of the reading initiative themed 'Reading Challenge' launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has organised the 'Reading' initiative in Z 30 Park in Mohammed bin Zayed City in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Authority for Tourism and Culture.
This step comes as part of an integrated programme, including purposeful social and cultural events organised by the technical division in Musaffah Municipal Centre. The initiative aims at broadening children's horizons, rendering reading a social and common practice that contributes to attracting as large community segments as possible, particularly children.Reading a story in response to the designation of 2016 as the UAE Reading Year in the Park, is part of a programme aimed at developing social events, promoting the role played of the municipality in supporting social activities and serving the community, besides motivating children to read, learn and understand.
The initiative targets students in Mohammed Bin Zayed City, and encourages them to read and forge a close relationship with the book, which is a source of culture and science, and accordingly paves the way for development.
The 'Reading' initiative in Z 30 Park in Mohammed Bin Zayed City included a diverse cast of educational, suspenseful and entertaining spots, besides distributing books, leaflets, and short stories, conducting contests, and staging a puppet theater to entertain children.
The initiative, which started on Tuesday will continue till August, and will include key topics such as reading stories in the park, holding an open day for reading in the park, and organising events to support reading in Mazyad Mall Library.
