Pink Caravan, a pan-UAE breast cancer initiative by the Friends of Cancer Patients society (FoCP), is calling on people to extend their support for the lifesaving work they do.
The Pink Caravan Ride is due to set off March 7-17 to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer, offer free breast cancer screenings, dispel myths about the disease and raise funds for breast cancer patients.

What is the Pink Caravan Ride?
The Pink Caravan Ride will see over 100 riders, accompanied by medical personal and staff, travel across all seven emirates offering free breast cancer screenings to all men and women. It will also spread awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and help dispel myths surrounding the disease.
Organisers are now appealing to everyone to extend their support by donating to Pink Caravan or by creating their own Pink Caravan page on JustGiving to raise funds for the charity and to increase the reach of their message.
Ameera BinKaram, Founding Member and President of the Board of Directors of FOCP and Chairperson of the Pink Caravan's Higher Steering Committee, said: "The more people our mission reaches to, the more lives we save. People are the best way to spread a message and that's why we ask you to lend us your support and pass on our message to everyone around you."
BinKaram has urged people to donate and raise funds Pink Caravan's JustGiving page http://campaign.justgiving.com/charity/focp/pcride2016 along with other online platforms such www.pinkcaravan.ae, or Facebook page, @ThePinkCaravan, and the Pink Caravan app.
BinKaram added: "I call on everyone to help make a difference by raising funds for Pink Caravan. Over the past five years Pink Caravan has offered breast cancer screenings to 36,332 women and men in the UAE. Of these, 10,839 cases were referred for mammogram screenings, and 1,362 people were referred for ultrasound, while 28 cases of breast cancer have been detected, including one male.

"Every year. an estimated 1.1 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide and approximately 410,000 of these women will die. According to statistics, 98 per cent of cancer cases, if detected early enough, can be treated and completely cured."
The cost of one medical screening for the early detection of breast cancer normally ranges between Dh500 to Dh1,000. But the Pink Caravan offers free examinations and screenings for citizens and residents across the UAE. "We could not do this important lifesaving work if it were not for the kindness and generosity of the people in the UAE.
