Laptops take a back stage in public schools that are part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program (MBRSLP).
Grade 10 students of these schools will now use 12-inch multi-touch screen tablets instead of laptops, said officials on Monday, while announcing the successful completion of infrastructure — hardware and software — for the academic year 2015- 2016.
As many as 208 schools registered with the MBRSLP, will be delivered 10,000 devices with updated Microsoft Office 365 solutions along with its integrated kickstand and surface “pro pen”.The MBRSLP initiative aims at raising the standards of education in the UAE, the users of which are supported by a data centre that serves more the 40,000 comprising teachers, students and school administrations.
Senior officials at Microsoft and MBRSLP stated that the tablet is one of the most advanced in the market today and its many features include a high-performing processor, high-definition display, and the fact that it is lightweight so the student can comfortably carry it around.
The rollout of the devices reflects the keenness of the UAE Government, represented by the Ministry of Education, and MBRSLP to provide students at participating schools with state-of-the-art technologies and prepare them to become future leaders.
Interestingly, the programme has also provided smart learning platforms that allow students to communicate with teachers outside official working hours and to monitor lesson and homework planners.
“From its inception, the MBRSLP has been including the addition of more students and schools every academic year, steadily growing each year,” said Mohammed Gheyath, Director General of the MBRSLP.
The programme include smart boards, smart devices for teachers, principals and deputy principals. The management team also organises nationwide training courses for teachers throughout the year.
The programme also gives teachers the chance to communicate easily with students and parents outside of classroom hours, and students the chance to look at their lesson plans and assignments in advance of classroom sessions.
