Natural and organic products have been the trend in UAE. This year's natural and organic pavilion at the three-day BeautyworldME held at Dubai World Trade Centre hosted 18 companies compared to 12 last year.
"There has definitely been an increase in interest for raw materials and natural ingredients this year. Big brands are starting to produce their own natural and organic lines," said Michael Dehn, group exhibitions director at organiser Messe Frankfurt. He added that the high demand goes back to people's awareness.
"The youth is now aware of the negative impact chemicals might have on their skin. Same thing goes to negative ingredients in food, which is why we notice a demand on organic food."
The cost of natural products might also be the factor behind the high demand. Dehn stated that since organic materials are more expensive to produce, people are more willing to spend money on it to reassure quality.
Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology, which certify organic products in UAE, confirmed receiving large number of applications.
"It has become a trend. Given the skin issues that arise due to the hot weather, people are relying on the healthier option," said Raghda Jammoul, conformity engineer at SGS.
