Pakistan is eliminating Taleban miscreants with a heavy hand as they pose serious security challenges to the stability of South Asia and the Central Asia region, said Pakistan's Ambassador to the UAE, Asif Ali Durrani. He was speaking at a ceremony organised as part of the golden jubilee of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
Pakistan does not harbour aggressive designs against any country in the region, said Durrani, adding that the country, however, does possess the capability to foil any aggressive plans like it did 50 years ago.
Pakistan is a "responsible and peaceful nuclear capable country and wants to have good relations with neighbouring countries on the principle of sovereign equality."
Referring to the success of the on-going military operation against Taleban militants, Durrani said: "It was a testimony of the fact that Pakistan is fully capable of meeting any challenge to the national security."
Felicitating the community on the occasion, Durrani recalled that in the 1965 war Pakistan's people and armed forces succeeded in thwarting external threat.
The ambassador paid tributes to the martyrs who heroically defended the country.
Earlier, students from the Shaikh Khalifa Pakistani School and other schools vowed to defend the nation's ideological frontiers.
They sang patriotic songs to pay respects to the fallen soldiers who died during the war.
