Parking no longer free outside Nakheel Metro station

Dubai - This comes a month after the JLT parking lots were made into paid parking.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has installed new parking meters at Emirates Golf Club area near the Nakheel Metro station, motorists informed Khaleej Times.
The move comes a month after the RTA made parking lots at the Jumeirah lake Towers (JLT) paid, which has badly affected Metro riders and people working at various clusters there.
A few weeks later the Nakheel Harbour Metro station was closed for developmental works, which further added to their problems.
When contacted for clarification, the RTA informed Khaleej Times that parking lots besides the Nakheel Metro Station are paid as per sign's code 388C. "Therefore, customers who uses the parking lots regularly, may purchase the seasonal parking permits through the RTA customer service centre and online channel."
A motorist, who is working at a firm located in one of the clusters of JLT, on condition of anonymity, told Khaleej Times: "I used the parking lot near the Nakheel Metro Station for free until February 6. It's on Monday I found the parking meters there. I paid Dh22 for eight hours.
"Our company bears cost of parking lots for top level officials but not for mid-level people. I don't know how I will commute daily from Qusais in this scenario."
He added that he started parking the car near the Nakheel Metro Station when JLT was made a paid parking zone.
Another motorist said: "If this is to raise awareness about the use of public transport and Metro, I would like to tell the RTA that all are not healthy to use the Metro daily. I now have to find some other way to reach office or search for a new job."
