The Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) have arrested a pharmacist for having in his possession, hashish and 1,286 prescription-only drugs, for the purpose of selling.
The pharmacist, Y.M.S, a 31-year-old Arab, obtained the tablets illegally from his work place to make extra money.
Colonel Sultan Suwayeh Al Darmaki, Chief of the Anti-Drug Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), pointed out that the anti-drug section in Al Ain received a tip-off that an Arab pharmacist was taking advantage of his position to sell drugs illegally.
"The section investigated the case and validated the information. A team was formed and a security plan was set to apprehend the suspect red-handed."
Colonel Al Darmaki noted that the suspect was cautious in terms of choosing potential buyers.
He pointed out that the pharmacist "was under watch before the anti-narcotics officers arrested him as he stepped out of his vehicle near his workplace."
The police conducted a thorough search of his vehicle and house and found a duffel bag full of prescription-only drugs. "The police seized a total of 1,286 narcotic pills and two packs each of 51gm hashish," said Colonel Al Darmaki.
Confronted with irrefutable evidence, the pharmacist confessed that the seized drugs belonged to him. "The suspect tested positive for various types of narcotic substance abuse and was referred to the authorities along with the seized drugs," said Colonel Al Darmaki.
Authorities called on the public to inform the police either through telephone 8002626, or through text message to 2828.
