The President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of condolences to President Arif Alvi of Pakistan for the victims of the plane crash in Karachi.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, dispatched similar condolences to the Pakistani president.
The PIA flight reportedly lost contact with air traffic after developing engine trouble during the trip from Lahore.
Only two passengers survived the crash.
UAE ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Alzaabi also took to Twitter on Saturday to offer his sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims of the crash.
"Sincere condolences to leadership and people of Pakistan on this tragic accident, wishing speedy recovery for injured in blessed days of Ramadan (sic)," added the envoy.
The tragedy occurred just days after commercial flights were allowed to resume operations once more in Pakistan, following their extended grounding during the Covid-19 lockdown.
