An Abu Dhabi resident managed to climb a telecommunications tower and attempted to jump off it. The police, however, managed to convince the Asian man in his 20s to abandon his attempt and come down.
The incident was reported to the police around 2.30pm on Thursday. Brigadier General Musallam Mohammed Al Ameri, director of the police directorate of external areas, said the man threatened to jump off the tower. It is unclear how he managed to climb the tower.
A team comprising of the police, civil defence and paramedics rushed to the site.
The Abu Dhabi Police said on their Instagram account on Saturday that negotiators "quickly convinced" the man against going through with the attempt "by making him realise the importance of life".
In November last year, the police managed to convince a young Emirati against taking his own life after he climbed the Sheikh Zayed Bridge's metallic bars.
