With promising plans to be crime-free by 2021, the Ras Al Khaimah Police are all set to cover the emirate with 150,000 surveillance cameras by the end of this year.
"So far, we have installed 135,780 cameras in 16,082 buildings across the emirate," Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, General Commander of the Ras Al Khaimah Police, disclosed on Saturday.
The CCTV cameras installed as part of the Hemaya project played a critical role in detecting and solving around 74 per cent of the crimes reported in 2017, according to Col Dr Mohammed Abdurrahman Al Ahmad, director of e-services and communication, RAK Police. The system has also helped the police hunt down the drivers involved in hit-and-run accidents.
