Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was sent as a mercy to the people, the UAE leaders have said as they paid tribute to his legacy ahead of his birthday.

The Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday is marked on Rabi Al Awwal 12, according to the Islamic calendar. It corresponds to October 29 this year.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, took to Twitter on Wednesday to say that Muslims renew their love for the Islamic Messenger (PBUH) on the day.

“On this day, Muslims remember the light he gave to humanity and retrace his journey,” Sheikh Mohammed said. “The Prophet (PBUH) was sent as a mercy for all peoples. May Allah allow us to drink from his hand, so that we never go thirsty again.”

In a video he posted, Sheikh Mohammed called the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) his role model.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, also took to Twitter to pay his tribute.

“The blessed birth of the Messenger of compassion, tolerance and peace. He laid the foundations of a righteous society and inspired a virtuous civilisation. His life continues to inspire mercy and kindness, and we pray on this day for peace and prosperity for all humankind,” the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince tweeted.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, noted that the day “reminds us of the mercy and compassion” of the “Prophet of Tolerance”.

The Prophet (PBUH) built a community based on coexistence, cooperation, compassion and fraternity, Sheikh Nahyan said.

“Amid the crisis facing the world, we must follow the ethics of the Prophet of Tolerance and emulate his actions,” he said.

“Following the ethics of the Prophet (PBUH), as well as his words and actions, will make the Islamic community a global one that calls for tolerance, coexistence, peace, compassion, and respect for diversity. The UAE is based on these traditional values. The Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence aims to promote these values locally, regionally and globally.”

Islamic heritage is one of the seven pillars of the UAE’s tolerance, and “the words and actions of the Prophet (PBUH) are examples for all of us”, Sheikh Nahyan added.
