Construction of the new Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital is well under way to meet its target of opening next year.
The Dh419 million facility at Al Raweyah 3 was recently visited by Dr Mohamed Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Health.
Al Olama checked all sections of the project and was briefed about the current works and challenges. Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital is being built on a 54,000-square-foot area with a capacity of 272 beds and in accordance with the highest international standards for green building.
The premises meet the latest UAE requirements for energy savings and sustainability, earning the classification of 'Gold Leed Healthcare' which is considered a one-of-a-kind accomplishment in the region.
Because of its green building methods, the hospital won an award for the 'Best Futuristic Design in the Middle East' in 2014.
The new hospital has three main sections consisting of two psychiatric wards - one each for men and women and an addiction ward.
It also features an Outpatient Clinic; a Nursing Department; a Laboratory; Electroencephalogram (EEG) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Departments; Cafeteria; Gymnasiums; and a Theatre where movies are screened.
