Traffic in the Ajman direction had been temporarily diverted since February 12 for the work. Amal Al Khamis, Director of the road maintenance department of the Sharjah Directorate of Public Works (DPW), said the square is located at the intersection of Al Sharq Road (Al Orooba) and Shaikh Sultan bin Saqr Al Qasimi Road near Butaina, Al Majara and Al Nabaa areas.

“The total cost of renovating the square was around Dh1.5 million and featured repaving the square. The square is heavily used by motorists commuting from and to Sharjah and Ajman. The maintenance work of the square comes as part of our comprehensive plans in renovating Sharjah’s existing roads according to the priority. We seriously take into consideration any suggestion from road users who think particular roads need to be renovated,” she said.

As part of the strategic plans of the DPW, more roads will be renovated in Sharjah to enhance the infrastructure of the emirate.— afkarali@khaleejtimes.com
