The Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) is named after the late Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the organising committee of the contest has said.
Ibrahim Bu Melha, Adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and Head of DIHQA Organising Committee, said the move is a simple appreciation to the late Shaikh Rashid.
"Attendants of the award sessions can win a daily raffle-drawn Umrah trip granted by Shaikha Hind bint Maktoum, wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime minster of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai."
"It has also been decided to change the name of the 'Recitation Contest' to 'Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum Contest for Most Beautiful Recitation,'" he added.

New unit to scan 'scientific miracles' in Quran
The organising committee of Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) has launched a new unit to identify 'scientific miracles' in the Holy Quran.
"A special unit has been created and thee unit has published books and organised exhibition, courses and seminars on this vital topic," Ibrahim Bu Melha, the head of DIHQA Organising Committee, said.
"The unit has collected and prepared all possible images and video clips on the scientific miracles in the Quran, and posted them on the award web portal and social media channels."
The unit has built up a database on the important entities and scholars specialised in the same issue, he stated.
"We have also compiled a comprehensive archive including all the pictures useful for the Quran scientific miracles researches."

"The decision will take effect next year."
Speaking to Khaleej times, Bu Melha said the award worth over Dh20million has decided, for the first time in 20 years, to raise the age limit from 21 to 25 years old.
So far, 92 countries and foreign communities around the world have confirmed their participation in the 20th edition, Bu Melha said.
"Though the UAE shall be represented with only one contestant, we are ready with competent four full memorisers," he added.
Countries like Chechnya, Tatarstan, and Dagestan, have been invited for the first time.
The competitions unit has prepared 500 questions for initial and final tests. All contestants need to clear the qualifying tests by scoring at least 70 per cent. In the final test, they have then to answer five questions.
Bu Melha announced that the deadline for the Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak International Quran Contest, which is a separate competition under DIHQA, has been slated on November 6-18.
"The venue will be announced later," he said, adding that all the female contest sessions will be telecast live, videotaped and replayed later.
"Female competitors below 15-years-old shall be permitted to have one family attendant whereas all the procedures and rewards are the same as with male contestants."
The DIHQA has launched a special satellite channel to broadcast the award activities until the Eid Al Fitr, he said.
"The award activities will be telecast by Arabsat, Nilesat, Hotbird, and Eutelsat satellite that covers the Indian Subcontinent."
All the updates on the award will be accessible on all social media platforms as well as DIHQA web portal, Bu Melha added.
Bu Melha noted that happiness and positivity will be the realm of the award 22-lecture programme which will start on June 7.
"All the lectures will be video-recorded and replayed at different timings to suit the audience wherever they are."
Arrangements for the contest include, free parking spaces provided by RTA Dubai, a health coordinator round the clock made who will be available by Dubai Health Authority and ambulance services. The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority will, however, run the second edition of the Islamic & Arabic calligraphy exhibition.
