Shamma Al Mazrouie, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, opened the Rashid Bin Mohammed Centre for Quran Memorisation Centre at the Umm Suqeim Model School Al Safa-2 in Dubai on Tuesday.
The move, the second of 12 campaigns initiated by the Dubai Customs, commemorates the late Shaikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
The campaign under the patronage of Shaikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the wife of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is themed 'To Heavens, Rashid!'.
Admission to the centre is free to female students of Umm Suqeim schools and their mothers, along with girls and ladies from the neighbourhood and the community at large, with no conditions for enrolment.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, said the two-shift centre will be open for girls in the morning shift from 8am to 1pm while interested mothers can attend the evening session from 4pm to 9pm.
"The centre, provided with a big number of Quran copies, accommodates 70 enrollees whereas the Umm Suqeim Model School has allocated seven staff teachers specialised in Quran memorisation for the job."
The initiative includes 12 campaigns, spanning Umrah trip, Quran study centre, Shaaban Charity, Ramadan Foodstuff, Orphans' cash gifts in Eid Al Fitr, two-month water aid for Dubai workers, Haj campaign, Eid Al Fitr clothing, Eid Al Adha clothing, and Zakat drive, which will benefit inhabitants of remote areas across the nation, he added.
"The initiative is a call for charity on behalf of the dead to embody the meanings of compassion and benevolence to our dead, and it is also a sincere charity for the sake of Almighty Allah."
"Shaikh Rashid will always be remembered for his role in advancing sports in the UAE, his philanthropic work and his skills as an accomplished equestrian and businessman," Bin Sulayem said.
Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Police and General Security; Ibrahim Bu Melha, Dubai Ruler's Advisor for Humanitarian and Cultural Affairs; Marwan Al Sawaleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education; Dr Ahmed Eid Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Educational District, and Noora Al Muhairi, Principal of Umm Suqeim Model School were present at the inauguration ceremony.
