With very first days of the New Year, residents of Ras Al Khaimah can now enjoy the RAK Corniche after the completion of the second phase of the much-awaited project.
The department of public works and services here has opened the 470m long walkway to ease the public suffering and bring happiness to them, particularly young kids and families, be they nationals or residents.
Eng Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, director of the department, said they have already started the third phase of the project. "This is actually the final stage of the project which is slated to come to a close in March."
The length of the RAK Corniche Pathway will be 1,059m in total, he added. "So far 825m have been completed of the promising project whereas the remaining 234m will be finished in March."
The department has further opened the side lane of the Khiran roundabout to curb long queues and traffic congestion at that particular area, mainly during morning peak hours.
"The side route of the arterial roundabout has been opened at the Kheil and Salehia areas in the direction of the Filya - Nakheel road in RAK city for traffic to give a boost to traffic flow."
The development works of the busy road was a big obstacle that was hampering traffic flow, he pointed out. "The opening of the side road has significantly reduced traffic accidents."
The road has been opened in collaboration with the RAK police to avoid any possible hassles. "The ongoing road development works are meant to boost traffic flow, curb traffic accidents, and cope with the unending urban and industrial expansions."
