The Ras Al Khaimah Courts has shifted its family counseling section to a totally separate building, away from the department's premises. The move, in pursuance of the directives of His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, is meant to give more privacy for family cases, and separate them from others," according to Adviser Dr Ahmed Al Khatiri, Chairman of the RAK Courts.
The new centre is open in two shifts to be able to serve the litigants at timings suitable to them, as per Dr Ahmed Al Khatiri.
"The new building is strategically located within residential areas so that people from all around can have easy access to it, he added. "This way such sensitive family cases will not be mixed with other criminal lawsuits."
The promising scheme is expected to harness the efforts of the RAK courts staff counselors, Al Khatiri said. "I do believe that more family disputes will be settled amicably in such convenient and friendly atmosphere."
Elaborating, he said that the section's has well-trained men and women counselors for the convenience of litigants
Shaikha Al Beriki, head of the counselling section, said the new premises will change the stereotype image of the family litigation being heard in court. The five staff counselors start receiving the public from 7.30am, she added. "Official records show that the section has handled up to 1,025 cases this year so far,"
