RAK roads to have more radars and cameras

Ras Al Khaimah - The 10 sophisticated radars can also record videos for every violation daily with a 24 hour video recording capacity.

In a bid to curb traffic accidents and violations, mainly speeding of vehicles, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police have decided to install 10 radars and 24 video cameras on various roads of the emirate.
Major-General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police, said the new gadgets can identify the lane of the erring vehicle, and differentiate between the speed of light and heavy vehicles.
"The 10 sophisticated radars can also record videos for every violation daily with a 24 hour video recording capacity, whereas the 24 video cameras will be controlling a number of major intersections here."
The new radars will be fixed on the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Maj-Gen Badr, Mohammed Bin Salem, Khor Khuweir, Al Rams - Daya, Filya., Khat - Airport, Al Nakheel - Shaml roads, he added.
"The digital video cameras are installed on the intersections of Officers Club, Mail, Manar Mall, Al Nakheel-Dubai Islamic Bank, Passports, Nisnas, as well as Shaml-Al Rams."
Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi said the new radars spot speeding in general, and at intersection in particular.
"They can also record red signals jumps, ignoring safety spaces, head shoulder violations, and banned timing or lanes for heavy trucks."
The high definition video cameras will give a boost to radars, he underlined.
"They can record all breaking speeds in a digital way as speeding has been reported as one of the most reasons behind deadly road accidents."
"The radars fixed on the roads of the emirate have remarkably cut traffic accidents this year by 85.7 per cent as compared to 2014. Meanwhile, serious road injuries have been reduced by 75.6 per cent with minor and moderate wounds by 70.5 per cent, and total accidents on dangerous roads by 25.7 per cent."
