With New Year around the corner, law enforcement bodies in Ras Al Khaimah are set to deploy more traffic and security patrols to secure the much-awaited celebrations and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Sources with RAK police told Khaleej Times that more staff will be deployed to control large crowds of people - expected to attend the New Year's Eve fireworks at RAK's Al Marjan Island.
"The fireworks will be attempt to break the Guinness World Record for 'largest aerial firework shell' that can be enjoyed from 120 sites."
Two new public view areas are to be created and over 5,000 additional public car parking spaces will be available around Al Marjan Island to welcome the visitors, they added.
"However, the public is urged to be at the site on Sunday, December 31 before 8pm to find convenient seats," they alerted. "All the roads to the entrance of Al Marjan Island will be closed at 10pm."
Abdullah Al Abdouli, managing director of Al Marjan Island, said a team of 30 engineers, pyrotechnicians, fabricators and others are working on the project led by Phil Grucci, creative director of Fireworks by Grucci.
"The spectacular fireworks display will add to the pride of Ras Al Khaimah and the entire nation," he said. "We are working with concerned government authorities to organise the event seamlessly in line with highest safety standards."
